With nearly ten years of professional non-profit experience, I have developed an array of development programs, as well as written and designed associated materials including newsletters, gift solicitation documents, business cards, fundraiser invitations and more. Many of these materials are multi-page documents, click around to uncover a plethora of content and design created to maximize non-profit income on limited budgets.
How does someone best share visual representations of their communications and development strategy work without giving their secrets away? The answer… Sugar (the cat). My placement of Sugar alongside the report from a successful marketing year is in and of itself a strategic move. Cats make up some of the most popular content on the internet (15% of all content to be exact). While some may call my choice to place Sugar in the image “clickbait” I call it strategy. I mean, it got you this far right?
*Editor’s note: I have decided to reveal SOME of my secrets. Just scroll below Sugar and click on her friends to see some strategy, analysis and reporting samples.
My strategic work started when I was a Social Media Strategist at the award-winning VIA agency where I used competitive analysis and market research to develop strategic social media campaigns for brands including Perdue® Farms, Friendly’s™ Ice Cream, Klondike® and Maine’s premier composting company Garbage To Garden. Utilizing comprehensive editorial calendars, social media insight tools, Google Analytics, and qualitative and quantitative research my team developed cross-platform campaigns, measured the success rates, and adjusted our approach as needed. During my time with the agency, our social media work generated the highest ROI for clients across all of their advertising platforms.
My marketing and development strategy work with the small non-profit arts organization One Longfellow Square helped take the organization from operating at a loss to generating income in under a year through an approach that shifted communications from traditional, print and mail marketing to a more digital focus that would decrease expenses while increasing revenue from ticket sales and contributed income. Based on research and connection within the community, I initiated a sponsorship program and worked with the Board Development Committee to craft member outreach strategies and fundraising campaigns and events to increase our number of memberships and gifts by nearly 50% within the first year. These successes set the venue on a strong trajectory of growth that would continue well into the years after my departure from the organization.
While some may find strategy work mundane (hence the use of Sugar to get you to this page in the first place), I find it incredibly fascinating and see it as the foundation for any business or organization’s success. I believe that for strategic thinkers, once the strategy switch is turned on it can’t be turned off. My switch is on and I am ready to bring my strategic approaches to your next project to ensure you the highest results through the most efficient approaches.

I got my start in photography by taking shots of screws and wetsuits for a boating supply company and have grown immensely since those days. I believe in the subtle beauty of the world, the ruffle of a feather, the organic flow of flower petals, the intricacies in architecture. My photography captures natural movements, manmade art, and performers from an array of backgrounds, and my aim is to highlight the honest moments in each of my subjects.
